J. Askew’s short story, “The Everything”, appears in Issue 9 of Awakenings here.
The story follows Aspen, a scientist on board a exploratory ship, who suffers on a daily basis with the guilt of not reporting her own rape by her captain. Under the icy seas of Neptune, she rescues a strange life form who doesn’t appear to be what he seems.
This art, poetry and prose magazine aims to make visible the artistic expression of survivors of sexual violence. Not only a magazine, Awakenings currently help survivors heal through art by providing year-round programming at their gallery space in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago.
